Any others in the wings? I never hear of these in advance, I just luck out and find them on the stands sometimes.

Yes, a Wonder Woman lost annual (1967) came out this month, with one golden age story and several Silver Age ones.

bumping....

So where are we at with the recent 80 Page/100 Page and other 'retro oneshots'?

Replicas:
Secret Origins Annual
Superman Annual
Batman Annual
More Secret Origins (80 Page Giant #8)
Sgt Rock Prize Battle Tales
Love Stories (DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #5)
Sugar and Spike #1
Flash Annual #1
Superboy #147 (80 Page Giant G-47)

Facsimilies/Faux Reprint Collections:
Green Lantern Annual 1963
Teen Titans Annual 1967
JLA 100 Page Super Spectacualar
JSA 100 Page Super Spectacualar
Brave and the Bold 80 Page Giant (1969)
Jack Kirby's Green Arrow
Shazam! and the Shazam Family 80 Page Giant
Wonder Woman 80 Page Giant

What's next? Different genres in a faux reprint? Another classic backissue reprinted in all it's glory?

It'd be great to see another Superman or Batman volume, either a replica or a newly-collected "facsimile" edition. There were enough of these that they were collected in themes, and it would be great to see that again -- not just a collection of Superman stories, but a collection all dealing with Krypton, or a collection of Batman stories featuring other members of the Bat-family -- Robin, Batwoman and bat-Girl, Batgirl, Bat-Mite, and Ace the Bat-Hound.

A 1964 GL Annual would be nice, too -- as would more Flash and Sgt. Rock. And someone (I think Stephen Utley) once suggested a Weird Secret Origins issue, reprinting origins of the Creeper, Metamorpho, the Metal Men, and others. That sounds like plenty of fun to me!

Breaking new ground, I'd like to see a Justice Society book with some Golden Age reprints, and a Charlton heroes edition as well.

Rob

I have been lurking here for a few months; I can remain silent no longer. I must proclaim something which I have shamefully kept to myself for years:

I want a Superbaby collection!

There, I've said it. I'm now on the road to recovery...

How many of these can there be anyway? (Enough for a Superbaby Archives?)

Paul Levitz and others get together at DC every January to perpend reprint projects for the new year. While I wait for Bob Wayne or Bob Greenberger or possibly somebody else named Bob to reveal just what I can expect in 2003 in the way of 80-pagers, I'm going to tantalize myself with a few possibilities. The long-lost 1946 QUALITY COMICS ANNUAL remains high on My Extensive Wish-List,* and I continue to believe (in the face of Paul's and other folks' rebuffs) to believe that there is a place in everyone's funny-book collection for, at the least, a 100-page collection of DC DINOSAUR COMICS* featuring terrific stories chosen, of course, by yours truly, moi. Replicas of the classic "Greatest Foes" SUPERMAN and BATMAN ANNUALS, the "lost" DC FUNNY FOLKS, ALL-STAR WESTERN ANNUAL, and WEIRD SECRET ORIGINS would be sweet to have -- oh, and an 80-page AQUAMAN ANNUAL, particularly if *ahem* it contained some of the many swell Ramona Fradon-illustrated stories published prior to the start date ruthlessly chosen for THE AQUAMAN ARCHIVES.** I am not yet convinced that it would necessarily be a good thing to increase the number of DC Archive and Archive-like editions published each year, but surely there ought to be more than a mere couple of annuals published annually.

------------------

*A scaled-down version of my repeatedly rejected DC DINOSAUR COMICS trade paperback. But am I bitter? No. Sisyphean my labor may be, but hope springs eternal.

** But am I bitter? N-nuh-no ....

I love the idea of an 80 pager / 100 pager containing material not available in the archives. The Quality annual sounds like fun. My #1 choice would be an All-Star Squadron annual, with individual stories of Robotman, Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle, TNT and Dan the Dyna-mite, and others.

Steve, I have a feeling you'll share my enthusiasm for a reprint of DC Special Series #16 "Superheroes battle Super Gorillas"

You bet! The Wonder Woman story reprinted in that issue is just about as pure-dee lunatic as any other story Robert Kanigher ever wrote. With the possible exception of "My Buddy, The Dinosaur."

Did the Superboy 147 reprint actually come out a couple of weeks ago? Just trying to ascertain whether I missed it or it's late.

And, while we're at it, if anyone knows, the SUPREME trade paperback (Checker Books) and the second volume of DC's BIRDS OF PREY trade?

Where have you been, poz? I had just begun to worry about you.

Anyhoo, yes, the SUPERBOY GIANT did come out a couple of weeks ago.

In answer to your question, Steve - things have been a little unsettled the last couple of months, as I got laid off from my job of the last 15 years. You might think this would result in my being less busy, but the opposite has been the case, especially since I used to cruise these boards during the slack hours of the night at my former job. In any case, I may have even less time to browse the posts here in the near future, as I'll be returning to school as a full-time student in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the heads-up on those books I missed (you too, James). For some reason my regular dealer never got any of these, so it's off to one of his local competitors for me, to score copies of these titles.

I remain determined to make a case to Bob Greenberger or Dale Crain for a third, faux SECRET ORIGINS 80-pager, this one devoted to some of DC's more outre characters. Metamorpho, Animal Man, and Eclipso are made to order, Dr. Fate is a perfect choice for the obligatory "Golden Age" slot, representing a nice spread of titles (THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, STRANGE ADVENTURES, HOUSE OF SECRETS, MORE FUN COMICS) and a strong line-up of artists (Ramona Fradon, Carmine Infantino, Lee Elias, Howard Sherman). The only problem is, there's one more slot open, and for the life of me I don't know who should fill it. Dr. 13, the Ghostbuster? Congorilla? Mark Merlin? Help me out here, gang.

Is there enough room for The Creeper?
If not, how about another Golden Ager--Sargon springs to mind, as does Ibis.

Although it was recently archived, Doom Patrol would fit right in.

Maybe Bizarro?

Kid Eternity, perhaps?

let me echo DC's "special thanks" to our own Stevie "lost annuals" Utley for his efforts on that recent Wonder Woman 80-pager!

And best on that spinal cord, pal! Having had two back surgeries, 3 hip replacements and JUST dodged a fourth, I DO know yer' pain, brudder!

Best...

Different stories. Lots of 'em.
Not right away--let us digest the Archive first.
Maybe next fall.

I got the Superboy Annual this week and had to write in praise of Curt Swan. The Costanza work was very good, but Swan in '62-'63 was simply at the top of his game. And the Legion stories were good enough to make me want to read more.
